Do you ever awaken with a headache or neck ache for no apparent reason? Your problem may be rooted in a misalignment of your upper and lower jaws. This can result in a temporomandibular (TMD) dysfunction. Other symptoms can include popping and clicking of the joints located in front of each ear, stiff muscles in the face and neck and difficulty in opening or closing your mouth. The cause can be damage to your TMD joint, a complex ball and socket joint with a disc in between the bones that acts like a shock absorber. Grinding, clenching, poor posture, traumatic injury, or even poor posture can affect the TMD joint.
