Dental Veneers as Part of a Smile Makeover

How do veneers work to restore the natural appearance of your tooth? The tooth is slightly etched to accept the veneers. This means we remove negligible enamel to ensure your veneers look natural and never bulky. Veneers work beautifully alone, but you can incorporate them into a full smile makeover that can include:

  • Professional teeth whitening
  • Dental bonding
  • Dental implants
  • Dental crowns
  • Invisalign

Benefits of Choosing Porcelain Veneers

Dental veneers offer a versatile and transformative way to enhance your smile. Here are three key benefits of choosing veneers:

Achieve a Flawless, Natural Look

Porcelain veneers are designed to mimic the appearance of natural teeth with their translucent, glass-like surface. This ensures your smile looks lustrous and healthy while concealing imperfections like discoloration, chips, or shape irregularities. Veneers provide a seamless, undetectable enhancement that helps you look and feel your best.

Durable and Stain-Resistant

Once bonded to your teeth, veneers become incredibly strong and resistant to staining from common culprits like coffee, tea, and red wine. This ensures your smile stays bright and beautiful over time without the need for frequent touch-ups, making veneers a long-lasting cosmetic solution when cared for properly.

Versatile Smile Improvement

Our cosmetic dentist can use veneers alone or as part of a complete smile makeover when combining treatments like whitening, crowns, or Invisalign for comprehensive results. Whether you want to refine minor flaws on one or two teeth or transform your entire smile, veneers provide a versatile option tailored to your cosmetic goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

dental bonding | cosmetic bonding | wilmington deThe appearance of teeth can be improved in several ways. One of them is cosmetic resin bonding. It will give you immediate results, but it may chip and stain over time and it has a limited life expectancy.

Veneers are a better option. Made from strong, durable dental porcelain, veneers are bonded securely to the fronts of your teeth for beautiful finished results. While veneers aren’t right for everybody, they can be an excellent solution to a range of common cosmetic concerns, including:

  • Wide spaces between the teeth
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Stained or discolored teeth
  • Uneven or crooked teeth

Dental Bonding Explained

Bonding is a technique that restores chipped, cracked, misaligned, or discolored teeth. An enamel-like resin is sculpted to the tooth to rebuild it. In this way, gaps in teeth can be closed, chips can be built up, and your tooth can be restored to enhance your smile.

With the proper care, a bonded tooth can last three to five years before it needs to be touched up to correct wear or discoloration.

Brighten Your Smile with Veneers in Wilmington

Veneers are thin sheets of ceramic that are also bonded to the teeth but last much longer, usually eight to twelve years. They look like your natural teeth without the imperfections. Your existing tooth surface will need to be prepared, or etched, to accept the veneers in Wilmington, which will be extremely durable. The final result is one of a natural, beautiful translucency that will give you a perfect smile.

Let’s start with the real problem – what is leading to your husband’s excessive tooth wear? Since he is aggressively grinding his teeth, it’s absolutely necessary for him to see a dentist who is familiar with jaw joint disorders. Before any work is done to rebuild his teeth, he needs to have the health of his jaw joints assessed. Additionally, balancing the bite may be necessary.

Unfortunately, while veneers are designed to be durable, they simply aren’t strong enough to stand up against the heavy grinding forces caused by bruxism. Porcelain crowns would probably be a better solution in this situation.

Temporaries are typically required after preparing teeth for veneers or crowns. I usually try to make my temporaries close in size, length, and color to the proposed permanent teeth. This gives us a “dress rehearsal” and allows the patient to try the changes before fabricating the final porcelain restorations. The technician uses the temporaries as a blueprint for fabricating the final restorations, as changes can be made easily to the temporaries. The temporaries usually look really nice – but not as nice as the permanent teeth!

Shade tabs of colored teeth are used to match natural teeth. Both the dentist and the lab technician have these tabs and use them to communicate the shade. We use digital photos of the patient’s smile and the teeth to further communicate the shade. Aesthetically inclined dentists will map out the many different shades and translucencies within a tooth for the best possible match.

About Wilmington Veneers

Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain ceramic bonded to the teeth. They are also called porcelain laminates and will look like natural teeth without imperfections! Although the porcelain is paper-thin, it becomes very strong and durable when firmly bonded to the tooth structure.

Porcelain veneers are glass-like (ceramic) and, therefore, translucent. This means that light will penetrate its surface, just like your natural enamel. This will give your tooth a lustrous, natural, and healthy appearance. This is a distinct advantage over other dental bonding materials, which may be semi-translucent. In addition, some dental bonding materials are susceptible to staining when exposed to tea, coffee, red wine, and tobacco. The surface of a porcelain veneer, however, is stain-resistant!

On their own, veneers can conceal almost any smile flaw, including:

  • Gummy smiles
  • Short teeth
  • Slightly crooked teeth
  • Discoloration
  • Shape issues
  • Midline discrepancies

We have you in for a consultation to learn whether veneers are suitable for your cosmetic goals. At this visit, we want to understand what you're looking for in a new smile, and we'll let you know how we can help you achieve it!
