The holiday season is upon us, and all of a sudden, you’re busy making lists and watching your calendar fill up with family gatherings, outings with friends, and school programs. When will you find the time to schedule dental appointments for you and your loved ones, you ask?
Well, even if it feels impossible to get everything done this time of year, making time to understand your dental benefits can help you take advantage of what you’ve been paying for all year.
How to Use Your Dental Benefits Before They Expire
Most dental insurance resets at the end of the calendar year, so after December 31, 2025, you’ll no longer have access to this year’s benefits. It’s best to check your schedule now so you don’t lose your benefits before they expire.
Fortunately, there are some things you can do now before it’s too late, such as:
- Explore your coverage — Our dental team can help you find out how much of the annual maximum you’ve used in 2025. This is the most your dental insurance will pay in any calendar year. We can also explain your deductible to you; this is the part you’re responsible for before your insurance begins to pay for some or all of what’s covered.
- Schedule preventive treatments — Most dental insurance pays 100% for preventive dental visits, so if you and your family are due for a routine exam and professional cleaning, you need to arrange those visits before December 31. Our schedule fills up fast at the end of the year, so we recommend you call us as soon as possible.
- Plan for larger treatments — If you need a dental crown or other procedure that requires more than one visit, you can often schedule the first appointment in 2025 and the second appointment in 2026, applying both visits to your annual maximum for the corresponding year.
