You may think that this does not concern you, because you do not have diabetes.  Are you sure?  Red puffy gums, progressive bone loss (as indicated on digital x-rays), and gum abrasions or inflammation that does not heal normally are all symptoms of possible diabetes.  During routine dental examinations, we have often suspected blood sugar problems in patients  who manifest these conditions, and have subsequently referred patients to their physicians for further study, and have confirmed our initial diagnostic suspicions. This holistic approach to dental examinations is yet another benefit of our six month dental check ups.
